Tour My Mother-in-Law's Historic Adirondack Farmhouse!

Hi dolls!

Since I began this blog in 2012 I've known I should feature my mother-in-law's gorgeous farmhouse at some point, but for some reason, I've never gotten around to it. Inspired by a recent trip my hubby took up there to see her, I decided that now was the time!

While all of my in-laws live in Texas, Ross's mom has a 114 year old farmhouse in upstate New York on the Saranac River that she visits during the summer and fall to escape the Houston heat and return to her roots (she grew up in the area). It's the perfect antecdote to busy, modern and hot big city life in Houston... and it's also incredibly adorable.

I've had the privilege of visiting the farmhouse 5 times in my 8 years with Ross and I fall in love with it a little more each time. I don't think there's anyone on the planet that wouldn't adore this house.  The historic charm, fresh mountain air (the home is located in the famous Adirondack Mountains), the original vintage wallpaper, the fresh hydrangeas, the PERFECT Adirondack decor (think bears, mooses, plaid, canoes and paddles - each of the 3 guest rooms is named after a different Adirondack animal), campfires, stenciled plank floors, sunflowers in the garden, rooster cabinet pulls, wrought iron chandeliers all work together to make it the most charming and cozy house I've ever been in.

Check out the photos below - I'm sure you'll love it as much as we all do!

I love this photo she has on display of the original owners standing in front of the house:

Fall & Halloween Decorations

Happy fall, barbie dolls!

I hope you're enjoying the cool weather, pulling out your boots and scarves and enjoying pumpkin flavors and scents as much as I am. To me, North Carolina is in its glory right now, but to my Texan husband, this is "winter" (seriously, he bought egg nog the other day).

I've finished my fall decorating (except for getting my Halloween tree up - I just haven't had the time yet). I've taken some pics of my favorite elements below, but you can also check out our fall decor from last year by clicking here and clicking here.

And to think, it all started with this disaster:

And although I haven't gotten here yet this year, here's a photo from our 2013 Halloween tree:

Thanks dolls! Happy decorating!

New Wainscoting!

Hi dolls!

I'm excited to share that we finally got around to wainscoting our living room! While we'd talked about it a lot for the past few months, it never made it to the top of our priority list. Thankfully two weekends ago we got a little bored and decided to jazz up our otherwise boring 20ft tall tan walls with some tall, white wainscoting! We thought the color, texture and material change would break up the otherwise big, boring walls.

We took it a step further than we'd originally planned and wrapped the trim into the similarly lacking kitchen as well. My ever-talented hubby had the carpentry (MDF box frames with new trim on top and our salvaged base boards on the bottom) done within 24 hours then the painting (two coats of Sherwin Williams' Steamed Milk in semi-gloss, an off white used for our trim throughout the house) took another afternoon. I helped with the painting and was his extra set of hands on the table saw, but this project was 98% him. How great did he do?!
